Moab is less then 1 month away! Who's all going, other than Rockrawler and I? I have a cabin for 3 all to myself. If you have never been to Moab and you're reading this, you owe it to yourself to go! Pictures and words can't describe it. (Some Moab guides charge $800 + per truck for what I do for free !) I've made the 2200 mile trip 7 of the last 8 years.....driving the FJ40 down and back ! Gas ain't getting any cheaper you know!
Is it working yet?

Kara and I are going!! She even created a countdown... We are planning to leave friday night after I get off work.
Also we are thinking of towing her jeep with mine... Mine weights approx. 4300lbs. with just my fat butt inside, and hers is about 3700 lbs. We thought about stripping hers down to bare minimum, and with all our gear packed in mine we're hoping mine will outweigh hers enough to be a stable tow. Anyone have any opinion on that? I figure even if I get 10 mpg towing hers it's still better than paying 14 mpg to drive two jeeps all the way there... We're looking forward to the trip~~
Countdown To
-John 2002 Jeep TJ, 2" lift, 31" BFG ATs, Aussie Locker in rear, Rock Sliders, 1.25" BL/MML, York on board air, custom rack on hood for shovel and axe. Soon to come: Flat skid plate

IMO In 2002 I flat towed my FJ40 (4700 lbs.!) with my 98' 3/4 ton BB Suburban ( 7000 lbs.) and it was a nerve racking 2200 trip. With your short wheelbase and no brakes you will be in worse shape than I was! Remember it's 23.5 hours ONE WAY! Ideally you want to cruise between 70-80 MPH .

The countdown is still wrong though, it still shows we're leaving on Saturday :)

Here's my .02...I flat towed my YJ with a mazda B2300 (ford ranger) down to rubicon and back AND.... it was frigin misrable. The jeep pushed and pulled the truck all over the place and infact almost pushed us over huge cliff. It is alot flatter going to moab then down I-5 but starting and most importantly stopping will be a big challenge. It can be done but will take quite a few more hours than you might think. But on the up side is if it doesn't seem to be working after a few hours you can just disconnect it and drive it the rest of the way.

I've torqued everything down and started changing the fluids, complete with fresh duct tape and bailing wire ! 70 mph @ 2200 rpm baby! It's gonna be chilly 40ish highs and mid 20s lows. At least my cb antannae is straight and tuned for the trip. The Moab Missle is ready.

Cool I'll have someone else to drive with me. As for departure, I'm leaving that to Dave? Maybe we can caravan down together? Where are you guys spending Friday night at? No matter how you slice it it's going to be two 12hr days of driving ;(. I've usually driven to the halfway point at Idaho Falls, ID. and stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. Secure parking, continental free breakfast, pool, hot tub and a good variety of restaurants for dinner. After ID Falls there isn't much more until northern Utah =16hr day and everything is closed. Or we could........? I've also driven straight through non stop. That really sucked...slepted for 9 hrs. Hints:cd, good cb,FRS radio,Red Bull, air up,camera and be ready for the best run of your life!

We are going to drive about 8 hours and rest for a while, probably just a few hours in our Jeeps. We're leaving early Friday morning so I'm hoping to get as many hours in as possible during the day, I hate to drive at night. I think we are planning on going all the way to Salt Lake City, but I'm sure we'd be open to other ideas if it means we can caravan together, that sounds like a good idea :)
My # is 971-222-9770 and John's is 360-690-5636. We both have text messaging, but I have unlimited so I text way more than him lol.
John installed my sound bar this last weekend and got me a KICK ASS stereo for Christmas with an aux plug in the front for my ipod so I'm good to go! And I'm a Red Bull adict so I'll be sure to take plenty lol. I have a 2gb chip for my camera so I've got room for a few thousand pictures, so I'm STOKED!!!!
Oh yeah! The 15th is my birthday so if we all end up wheelin that day I'm designating that day as my birthday run *lol*

Yea, I think Caravaning down would be cool! the more the merrier! I think Kara and I plan to be ready to roll friday morning... Earlier the better... I don't think I can drive straight thru if I tried... I'll have to sleep either in my jeep, a hotel room, under a tree, in a garbage can, don't matter where... although the Hot tub sounds nice... Number in phone, check. Cd, Check. Good CB, check (me anyway). FRS Radio, negative. Don't have one. Red bull, negative. Prefer Full Throttle. Air up, will check. Camera, Check. Best run of my life, CHECK!
